Kuala lumpur: Daicel Corporation's High Performance Polymers (HPPs) SBU, formerly known as Polyplastics Co Ltd, has announced the launch of four new DURACON POM grades, each containing 30 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. These innovative grades were first introduced at CHINAPLAS 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new PCR-POM range features standard, low volatile organic compound (VOC), sliding, and tough grades. This range allows customers the flexibility to choose materials that best align with their application requirements. The standard PCR-POM grade boasts a melt flow rate of nine, while the low VOC grade conforms to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards. The sliding grade enhances sliding properties, and the tough grade offers performance akin to virgin POM grades.

Since 2023, Daicel has been providing its DURACIRCLE re-compounding service, which focuses on recycling plastic scrap collected from customer facilities. Initially, the company concentrated on post-industrial recycling (PIR), which involves reusing manufacturing scrap. The newly launched PCR-POM grades, however, utilize post-consumer POM sourced from the market as recycled raw material.

Daicel acknowledged that a primary challenge in using PCR materials is the need to maintain consistent quality due to variations in material properties. By leveraging its extensive compounding expertise and advanced quality control technologies, the company has ensured that the key mechanical properties of the new grades remain comparable to conventional ones, despite containing 30 per cent recycled material, based on their in-house testing conditions.

DURACON POM is widely used across various industrial sectors, known for its high mechanical strength and rigidity, exceptional wear resistance, favorable sliding properties, and high dimensional stability.
