Cybersecurity Responsibility Expands Beyond Tech Experts, Says NSC Chief

Kuala lumpur: Cybersecurity is no longer solely the responsibility of technology experts, but rather a shared responsibility of the entire community in ensuring the country's cyberspace remains safe, said National Security Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin. He emphasized that in today's challenging digital landscape, cybersecurity has become a national agenda intricately tied to national security, economic stability, and the welfare of the population.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Raja Nurshirwan highlighted the commitment of the MADANI Government to secure the nation's digital transformation. This is being pursued through the implementation of the Cybersecurity Act 2024, the Malaysia Cyber Security Strategy (MCSS) 2025-2030, and numerous initiatives aimed at developing the country's digital talent. These actions are part of a broader effort to ensure that digital advancements are achieved in a safe, inclusive, and sustainable manner.

However, the director-general pointed out that the success of these policies and strategies is contingent upon cultivating a digitally literate and responsible society with heightened cybersecurity awareness. He underscored the importance of programmes like My Cyber Hero, which aim to engage the younger generation in understanding cybersecurity beyond just technology. The programme focuses on building trust, integrity, responsibility, and societal protection.

During the closing ceremony of My Cyber Hero 2026, Raja Nurshirwan announced that 32 teams from across Malaysia had reached the finals of this year's competition. These included 16 teams in the primary school category, known as Rookie Cyber Hero, and 16 teams in the secondary school category, Star Cyber Hero.

The My Cyber Hero programme is a national-level cybersecurity education initiative designed to provide school students with the necessary knowledge and skills to comprehend, develop, and safeguard the country's digital future. This programme is organized by the NSC through the National Cyber Security Agency in collaboration with Micro Concept Tech Sdn Bhd and BlackBerry.
