Curia Announces Expansion of Sterile API Manufacturing Facility in Spain

Valladolid:Curia Global Inc, a global contract development and manufacturing organization, has declared a strategic investment to expand its sterile active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing capabilities for both steroid and non-steroid products at its Valladolid, Spain facility.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this expansion is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2028 and aims to enhance the site's support for injectable suspensions and other complex sterile formulations.

Scott Wagner, Curia's President of API, stated that the Valladolid site is uniquely positioned to offer variable batch size manufacturing for sterile APIs. He highlighted that this investment is pivotal for the continued growth of the company’s sterile API capabilities, leveraging the site’s extensive experience in sterile manufacturing to provide clients with increased production flexibility and comprehensive support from development to commercial manufacturing.

The expansion will further build on Curia's sterility assurance and solid-state engineering expertise, incorporating advanced techniques such as aseptic crystallization, milling, and micronization. It will involve the use of closed systems with barrier isolators to ensure primary containment for sterile API handling while minimizing operator interaction.

The upgraded facility will accommodate production scales ranging from grams to metric tonnes and will offer customizable aseptic packaging configurations. These enhancements are designed to maintain sterility, reduce the need for handoffs, and lower contamination risks during transfer and storage.

This development follows a US$4 million upgrade of Curia's API aseptic suites in Valladolid, completed in May, which has further strengthened the site's integrated research and development, analytical, and manufacturing services.
