Teluk intan: Police arrested a man yesterday for allegedly stealing cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia Berhad (Telekom) at an oil palm plantation in Bandar Lagenda, near Teluk Intan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hilir Perak Police Chief ACP Chua Kok Lian stated that the 24-year-old suspect was apprehended at about 11 pm by a team from the Teluk Intan Police Station and the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters during crime prevention rounds.
'The suspect is believed to have been stealing cables around Teluk Intan. Although a body search found no illegal items on him, a further check of the area led to the discovery of a gunny sack,' Chua remarked. 'The sack contained various copper wires that had been burnt and are suspected to belong to Telekom,' he added in a statement.
Chua further revealed that a background check showed the suspect has two prior criminal records related to narcotics. However, his urine test came back negative for drugs.
