Communications Ministry to Enhance Clarity in Government Messaging

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Communications is set to intensify its efforts to enhance government messaging, ensuring that information regarding government policies, programs, and assistance is communicated clearly and effectively to the public. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the importance of coordinated communication machinery, involving information officers, public relations officers (PRO), and Corporate Communications Units (UKK) across all ministries and agencies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted the significance of addressing communication barriers, particularly when the target audience is unaware of available products or services. During an address to the staff of the Department of Information (JAPEN), Fahmi stressed the need for clarity in dissemination, especially for targeted programs like those by the Ministry of Finance, including Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), MySalam, and schooling assistance.

Fahmi underscored the necessity of using simple and contextually appropriate language, tailored to local needs. He noted that different communities might require varied linguistic approaches to ensure effective communication. Fahmi also mentioned the Chief Secretary to the Government's emphasis on enhancing government communication for better public understanding of initiatives.

In a related development, Fahmi expressed hopes for the activation of the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) as a strategic training center. This would aim to produce key government communicators capable of responding to current needs and effectively managing communication issues raised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Addressing the evolving information consumption habits, Fahmi pointed out that youths aged 18 to 35 are the largest group consuming information via platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp. He urged the government and its information machinery to adapt to these changes and not rely solely on traditional methods.

Additionally, Fahmi proposed the use of the WhatsApp audio feature as an effective communication tool, particularly for reaching communities less inclined to engage with written content.
