Pahang: Commercial crime in Pahang is on the rise, with 2,170 cases recorded between January and August, an 11.7 per cent jump from 1,942 cases in the same period last year. Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the surge in cases came hand in hand with more arrests: 1,569 people this year, up from 1,342 in the same period last year, a 16.9 per cent increase.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, on a positive note, losses from commercial crime dropped 22.4 per cent to RM49.4 million, down from RM63.7 million a year earlier. "The number of charge sheets also climbed to 898, a 19.3 per cent rise from 753 the previous year," he said in his speech at the September 2026 monthly assembly at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters today.

Azry Akmar said the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), working through the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), seized RM383,509.94, of which RM139,450.35, or 36.36 per cent, has since been returned to victims. He said the development reflects the CCID's ongoing commitment to combat commercial crime, while strengthening enforcement and efforts to recover victims' losses.

Meanwhile, Azry Akmar said the number of road accidents rose by 714 cases to 16,811 between January and August, up from 16,097 in the same period last year. Fatal accidents, however, fell to 279 cases from 309 last year. "The Pahang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department issued 127,099 summonses for various traffic violations during the period," he said.
