CIDB Holdings and CI Tech Partner to Launch Malaysia’s First Blockchain Platform for Construction Carbon Credits

Kuala lumpur: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia’s commercial arm, CIDB Holdings Sdn Bhd, has officially partnered with CI Tech Sdn Bhd to introduce Malaysia’s pioneering government-endorsed blockchain platform. This platform is specifically designed for managing verified carbon credits within the construction sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, CIDB Holdings announced that this new platform aims to deliver comprehensive traceability, transparency, and integrity of carbon data across the entire construction value chain. CI Tech’s platform is engineered to automatically capture and secure critical data related to materials, transport, energy consumption, and waste management. This process results in the creation of cryptographically authenticated records, which can be independently verified.

The company further noted that all verified carbon data generated through the platform will conform to internationally recognized standards such as Verra and the Gold Standard. This compliance will facilitate the trading of carbon credits on the Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX) as well as global voluntary markets.

CIDB also revealed that pilot projects involving flagship housing and infrastructure developments will serve as the initial phase of this initiative. These projects are intended to lay the groundwork for a National Construction Carbon Registry and the development of standardized carbon accounting methodologies.

Supian Musa, CEO of CIDB Holdings, emphasized that this collaboration marks a significant shift for Malaysia’s construction industry. “For the first time, every player, from the smallest subcontractor to the largest developer, can produce verifiable, auditable carbon data that redefines how to measure sustainability in Malaysia,” he stated.

CI Tech CEO Govinda Retnavelu highlighted that the platform removes traditional barriers related to cost and complexity. It empowers all contractors to contribute trusted sustainability data that is globally recognized.

The CIDB concluded by stating that Malaysia will be the first Southeast Asian nation to implement verified carbon credits in the construction sector under a government-led framework. This move is expected to position Malaysia as a regional hub for digital carbon verification and sustainable construction technology.
