Christmas SHMMP: Sarawak KPDN Mobilises Over 300 Officers

Sarawak: The Sarawak branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has mobilised more than 300 officers statewide to ensure compliance with the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Christmas this year. Its director, Matthew Dominic Barin, stated that the operation involves enforcement officers and price monitoring personnel who will be stationed at strategic locations across Sarawak to oversee pricing and prevent profiteering during the festive period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the officers will be responsible for monitoring the availability of supplies and ensuring price compliance through inspections at various business premises, including supermarkets, public markets, farmers’ markets, and retail shops. Inspections are conducted to monitor compliance and investigate consumer complaints to ensure that violations by traders are dealt with in accordance with the law.

Matthew Dominic Barin conveyed this information to reporters following an inspection for compliance with the Christmas SHMMP at a local supermarket. The Christmas SHMMP 2025 will be enforced for five days starting today, involving 14 types of price-controlled goods in Sarawak, with maximum prices gazetted under the scheme. Under the scheme, items such as tomatoes, red chillies, large yellow onions, and imported potatoes from China are subject to price control.
