Chinese New Year Unites Malaysians Nationwide in Celebratory Spirit

Kuala lumpur: The Chinese New Year is celebrated by Malaysians of all races, proving that unity remains the country's pillar of strength. From the hosting of open houses to the performances of lion dances, this festival unites Malaysians in an atmosphere of muhibbah (goodwill), harmony, and mutual respect.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Kuala Lumpur, the MCA-organised Chinese New Year Celebration was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar emphasized that the Chinese New Year, celebrated with various races, accentuates the spirit of unity among Malaysians. "I came to celebrate the Chinese New Year organised by MCA, and this is not just for one group, but a celebration for all Malaysians. It is joyously celebrated and reflects our unity," said the Prime Minister.

In Negeri Sembilan, over 5,000 domestic and outstation visitors attended the Kuala Pilah Si Thian Kong Temple as early as 7.30 am for prayers, seeking blessings and prosperity in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration. The temple's media communications director, Liaw Zi Xhuan, stated that visitors started congregating at the state's biggest temple to watch the various activities arranged by the temple management, as well as to pray.

In Kelantan, about 1,500 Chinese folk attended the Swee Nyet Keung Temple to pray on the first day of the Chinese New Year, despite the rainy conditions, said Mukim Pulai village head Foo Mei Ling. She mentioned that the temple will continue to receive visitors throughout the festive period.

In Melaka, over 4,000 people from different races in Machap Baru, Alor Gajah, welcomed the Chinese New Year with activities such as art and culture performances, sale of food and goods, and firework displays. State Health, Human Resources, and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem noted that the programme served as a medium to unite people of various races.

In Perlis, over 200 people of various races attended a Chinese New Year celebration organised by NGOs at a temple in Pauh, Arau. Visitors like Lim Wei Jian and Ahmad Firdaus Rahman expressed their joy in witnessing the fireworks display and experiencing the festive celebration alongside different races.

In Kedah, Ong Pei Tan shared her experience of celebrating by offering prayers and later engaging in recreational activities with friends. She highlighted the inclusivity of the celebration, noting that Malays and Indians also join in the festivities.

In Perak, many people began their celebrations at the Lin Seng Tong Temple to perform religious rituals and offer prayers. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad expressed hopes for joy, peace, and prosperity for all who celebrate, emphasizing the importance of unity as a foundation of Malaysia's strength.

In Johor, the Chinese New Year was joyfully celebrated at the Senai International Airport. Visitors from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, were welcomed with a lion dance performance and given mandarin oranges and Visit Malaysia 2026 souvenirs. Johor Unity, Heritage, and Culture Committee chairman K. Raven Kumar highlighted the strength of people's unity as a unique aspect of Malaysia's tourism appeal.
