Jakarta:The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has advised childcare centre operators to halt outdoor activities to protect children from exposure to polluted air caused by the haze affecting several areas in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, The Social Welfare Department (JKM) under KPWKM emphasized that decisions regarding the operation of childcare centres should consider current Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and comply with the National Haze Action Plan and directives from relevant authorities. The Ministry's statement urged operators to ensure a safe and conducive environment for children.
If conditions allow childcare centres to remain open, operators and parents are encouraged to collaborate and determine the most appropriate care arrangements based on local conditions, family needs, and the best interests of the children. This approach aims to safeguard children's welfare while acknowledging the needs of working parents.
KPWKM also highlighted the importance of staying informed about API readings from the Department of Environment and adhering to advice from the Ministry of Health and other authorities. The safety and health of children should be the primary consideration in every decision made.
The Ministry, through JKM, believes that cooperation and communication between childcare centre operators and parents are essential to ensure children receive the necessary protection and care during the haze period.
