Cheltenham:Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, has become the first alumna of Cheltenham Ladies' College in England to have a building named in her honor.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the college's new sixth form centre has been named the Zarith Sofiah Centre. This announcement was made through a post on His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim's official Facebook page.
The naming of the Zarith Sofiah Centre, announced on September 29, acknowledges Her Majesty's lifelong service and contributions. Cheltenham Ladies' College executive principal Eve Jardine-Young expressed the college's honor in naming the new centre after Raja Zarith Sofiah.
Eve Jardine-Young stated that the college community, including past, present, and future parents, pupils, and staff, is delighted to open this new Sixth Form Centre. She emphasized that it is the only building named after an alumna and anticipates welcoming new pupils in 2027 while sharing the centre's progress with Her Majesty.
Raja Zarith Sofiah attended Cheltenham Ladies' College from 1972 to 1977 before continuing her education at the University of Oxford.
