CelcomDigi and Maxis Accept Spectrum Awards from MCMC

Accra:Both CelcomDigi Bhd and Maxis Bhd have accepted spectrum awards issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, CelcomDigi's subsidiary, CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (CDTel), secured a 2x20 megahertz (MHz) allocation in the 2600MHz spectrum frequency bands and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz spectrum frequency band, with a total cost of RM381.75 million. These spectrum assignments are set for durations of four and five years, respectively. The company stated that these acquisitions would enhance its capital expenditure efficiency, network capacity, and service quality to meet increasing customer demands. The new assignments allow for a contiguous 2x40MHz spectrum holding in the 2600MHz band and improve its position in the 900MHz band, supporting broader and deeper coverage nationwide.

Maxis, on the other hand, obtained an additional 2x10MHz of 2600MHz spectrum for a total upfront fee of RM203 million, plus an annual fee component over the assignment period, amounting to RM84 million in total. The spectrum assignment for Maxis is valid for four years, as detailed in their filing with Bursa Malaysia.
