CCTV Installation In Kelantan Private Premises, Businesses Still Lacking – Police

Kota bharu: The level of installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Kelantan is still not comprehensive, especially involving private and business premises, although the technology has proven effective in helping prevent crime and investigations. Kelantan police chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, stated that studies have shown a significant gap in CCTV installations in certain premises, despite the increasing need to strengthen public safety.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a study found that 67 health premises, 145 educational institutions, and 180 government administrative offices in Kelantan are equipped with CCTV. However, among private premises, the numbers are slightly higher with 241 health premises, 266 educational institutions, and 577 business premises having the facility. Interestingly, the installation of CCTV in mosques was noted to be high, with 302 premises equipped, surpassing the number in business premises, indicating an imbalance in security needs.

Commenting on crime statistics, Datuk Mohd Yusoff revealed that from January to November, 1,457 housebreaking cases were recorded. Notably, only 37 of these cases involved premises with CCTV, while more than 200 cases occurred at locations without the facility. For business premises, the number of cases is nearly balanced between those with and without CCTV, whereas most government premises have been equipped with the technology.

In a separate matter, Mohd Yusoff confirmed that a police officer from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at a District Police Headquarters is under investigation for allegedly molesting a woman in a car in Pasir Mas last Wednesday. The victim is the wife of a detainee, and further investigations are underway under Section 345 of the Penal Code. The police officer is in his 30s, while the victim is in her 20s.
