Kuala lumpur: An activist suspected of making criminal threats via Facebook surrendered at the Port Dickson district police headquarters (IPD) today after it was believed that he had fled to Thailand since March.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad stated that the 33-year-old local man turned himself in at about 12.45 pm after spending over four months in the neighbouring country. Investigations revealed that the police received a report from a man at 6.25 pm on March 10, alleging threats made on the social media site by the suspect.

Efforts to locate the suspect in Kajang, Selangor, were initially unsuccessful, as he was believed to have crossed into a neighbouring country via Bukit Kayu Hitam on March 9. The suspect reportedly re-entered Malaysia illegally at the Kelantan border before surrendering.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Alzafny noted that the man would be brought to the Seremban Court tomorrow for a remand order to assist in the investigation.
