Carrying Excess Zamzam Water Could Land Haj Pilgrims In Trouble

Kuala lumpur: Carrying large quantities of Zamzam water as souvenirs may result in complications, with haj pilgrims' luggage subject to detention or inspection by Saudi authorities. Haj Pilgrims Operations deputy director Mohd Ridzuan Yusoff highlighted the issues faced by pilgrims attempting to transport extra Zamzam water by concealing it in their luggage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, despite annual reminders, some pilgrims continue to violate airline regulations and Saudi authorities' rules, risking their luggage being held for further inspection. Mohd Ridzuan explained that concealing Zamzam water, even when wrapped in various materials, is ineffective, as screening processes can detect the contents. Luggage found to contain excess Zamzam water is opened by authorities for inspection, potentially leading to misplaced or damaged personal belongings.

Mohd Ridzuan advised pilgrims to adhere to regulations and avoid unnecessary risks to bring back more Zamzam water. He emphasized the importance of compliance, noting that the maximum baggage allowance is 30 kilogrammes per pilgrim, even if two bags are permitted.

On a related note, he discussed the City Check-In (CCI) operation implemented by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) in collaboration with airlines. This initiative facilitates pilgrims' return journey by allowing luggage to be checked in 48 hours before departure. It alleviates the burden on pilgrims who no longer need to carry large bags to the airport, as their luggage is handled in advance at their accommodation.

Mohd Ridzuan highlighted that the CCI operation, introduced in 2013, has become one of TH's key initiatives for enhancing the travel comfort of Malaysian haj pilgrims, ensuring a smoother post-pilgrimage experience.
