CapBay Achieves Over RM6 Billion in Financing for Malaysian SMEs

Accra:CapBay Group has achieved cumulative financing of over RM6 billion since 2016 by issuing 45,000 financing notes to more than 2,700 Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across 20 industries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the company provides working capital through joint investment frameworks such as the Malaysia Co-Investment Fund and the NIMP Strategic Co-Investment Fund, both overseen by the Securities Commission Malaysia.

CapBay utilizes its Supply Chain Finance and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Financing Platform to analyze real-time trade data, invoice authenticity, and buyer payment records without requiring property as collateral, thus expediting the approval process. As CapBay enters its second decade, it aims to enhance public-private partnerships and improve AI-based credit assessments to extend its reach to more businesses in Malaysia.

Co-founder and group CEO Ang Xing Xian stated that the financing amount over the past decade should be seen as a reflection of the salaries paid, contracts fulfilled, and businesses sustained, rather than just its monetary value.

In relation to Budget 2027, CapBay observed that it bolsters the role of P2P platforms, with the government allocating RM270 million to attract private capital to SMEs, mid-sized companies, and social enterprises through P2P financing and equity crowdfunding. Additionally, a fixed stamp duty of RM10 will be applied to financing agreements through P2P platforms from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2030.

Ang emphasized that the support for P2P platforms in Budget 2027 highlights the integration of regulated digital financing into Malaysia's funding landscape for SMEs and affirmed the company's commitment to channeling capital to all viable businesses that require it.
