Kuala lumpur: Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn departed Malaysia today after concluding a two-day official visit to the country. Sokhonn and his delegation left from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on a commercial flight headed for Phnom Penh at 4:45 pm. The Malaysian Government's chief ceremony officer Datuk Rozainor Ramli was present to bid farewell to the delegation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sokhonn's visit, which commenced on Monday, was in line with preparations for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Cambodia, set for 2027. This visit underscored the enduring partnership between the two nations. During his visit, Sokhonn met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Prime Minister's Office. The leaders reaffirmed their countries' longstanding ties and explored avenues to enhance strategic cooperation in sectors such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, the halal industry, food security, and human capital development.

Sokhonn also co-chaired the 3rd Malaysia-Cambodia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) Meeting with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in Kuala Lumpur. This meeting marked the resumption of the bilateral mechanism after a 20-year hiatus, highlighting the commitment of both nations to reinvigorate their collaborative efforts.

In 2025, Malaysia and Cambodia recorded significant trade growth, with bilateral trade increasing by 27.4 percent year-on-year to RM5 billion (USD1.17 billion). Malaysia's exports to Cambodia were valued at RM4.13 billion (USD970 million), while imports totaled RM880 million (USD200 million). As of 2024, Malaysia's cumulative investments in Cambodia stood at USD3.20 billion (RM13.07 billion) across 162 registered projects, positioning Malaysia as the third-largest foreign investor in the Kingdom.
