Kuala lumpur: The Cabinet has agreed to relinquish the Federal Government's rights over the Rajang Area Security Command (RASCOM) site in Sibu, Sarawak, and hand it over to the Sarawak Government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) announced in a statement today that the area involved four locations in Sibu, namely Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun, and Nanga Sekuau, with a total area of 3,655.60 hectares.

The decision reflects the Federal Government's ongoing commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Sarawak Government. This move aligns with the spirit of federalism and acknowledges the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Since 2023, the Federal Government has approved the return of 64 lots of Federal Government-owned land in Sarawak. The release of rights allows the Sarawak Government to plan and execute more strategic development in the area, thereby optimizing land use to drive economic growth and enhance the well-being of the state's residents.

The NRES emphasized that the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring federal assets and land are managed efficiently, transparently, and in cooperation with state governments for the benefit of the people and the prosperity of the country.
