Cabinet Approves Development of Port Klang Third Terminal in Carey Island

Kuala lumpur: The government today approved the development of the third terminal at Port Klang in Carey Island, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He stated that the Cabinet meeting today approved a memorandum by the Transport Ministry (MoT) for the project, which will be implemented by the Selangor state government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision detailed the implementation model, with the Selangor state government set to lead the development. The MoT will continue to act as the regulator to ensure the project's proper and orderly execution. Speaking at the MoT 2026 monthly assembly, Loke emphasized the importance of the Selangor state government's role in establishing a special purpose vehicle with private companies to secure investment for the terminal's construction and operation.

Loke highlighted the significance of this long-term project, stressing that despite current global geopolitical challenges, national development efforts remain on track. He reassured that key infrastructure projects will continue to move forward to bolster the country's infrastructure landscape. Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had instructed all relevant agencies to expedite the development of the third terminal at Port Klang in Pulau Carey.

Anwar emphasized the project's potential to serve as a model for efficient, organized, and integrity-driven national development. The third terminal at Port Klang in Pulau Carey is expected to enhance the country's economic capacity and position in the port and logistics sector.
