Bursa Malaysia Experiences Decline Amid Heavyweight Sell-Off

Bursa malaysia: Bursa Malaysia experienced a downturn at mid-morning as selling pressure in selected heavyweight stocks contributed to the decline, particularly affecting the financial services and consumer products and services sectors. At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dropped 4.90 points to 1,735.32, following an initial increase of 1.72 points at the opening.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the broader market exhibited a negative sentiment with 728 losers compared to 309 gainers. Additionally, 429 counters remained unchanged, 1,248 were untraded, and 32 were suspended. The market turnover reached 1.44 billion shares, with a total value of RM875.91 million.

Significant movements among heavyweights included CIMB declining by nine sen to RM7.79, Nestle dropping RM3.32 to RM96.88, and Public Bank falling four sen to RM4.87. Contrarily, Petronas Chemicals saw an increase of 21 sen to RM5.80, and Tenaga Nasional rose by eight sen to RM14.62.

In terms of the most active counters, GIIB and Advance Synergy both increased by one sen, reaching 30 sen and 8.5 sen, respectively. Top Glove improved by 2.5 sen to 80.5 sen, while AirAsia X decreased by three sen to RM1.12, and Zetrix AI eased by one sen to 83.5 sen.

Among the top gainers, Allianz Malaysia advanced by 24 sen to RM21.72, Westports increased 19 sen to RM6, Tong Herr Resources gained 15 sen to RM1.77, Vitroz rose eight sen to RM6.07, and Multi-Usage climbed 7.5 sen to 47 sen.

Conversely, top losers included Malaysian Pacific Industries, which slipped RM1.02 to RM43.08, Batu Kawan, which lost 54 sen to RM20.44, Petronas Gas, which weakened by 32 sen to RM17.86, PPB, which was down 26 sen to RM10.54, and Kuala Lumpur Kepong, which gave up 24 sen to RM20.08.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased by 42.66 points to 12,780.19, while the FBM Emas Index fell 56.63 points to 12,838.24. The FBM Top 100 Index weakened by 53.38 points to 12,679.93, the FBM Mid 70 Index dropped 152.75 points to 18,352.26, and the FBM ACE Index slid 61.64 points to 4,681.10.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index decreased by 78.49 points to 20,175.82, the Energy Index edged down 0.51 of-a-point to 808.38, and the Plantation Index trimmed 18.19 points to 8,567.24. In contrast, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.12 of-a-point to 200.07.
