Bumiputera Education Congress: Govt Urged To Create Act To Monitor TVET Quality

Kuala lumpur: The government has been advised to enact a specific Technical and Vocational Training Education (TVET) Act to monitor and coordinate the quality of the education system more systematically and effectively. Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang emphasized that the enactment of such an act could provide a significant shift in the system to strengthen the implementation of TVET in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prof Zaini highlighted the potential impact of a dedicated TVET Act during his presentation at the 2026 Bumiputera Education Congress held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. He noted that having a specialized act could facilitate indirect monitoring and result in a major transformation of the system.

Zaini stressed the importance of strengthening the system, particularly as Malaysian technical graduates have begun receiving international recognition and are sought after globally. His survey of 15 countries last year demonstrated that Malaysian TVET graduates possess the skills to enter job markets in developed nations such as Japan and South Korea.

Furthermore, Zaini pointed out that local medical graduates have also showcased the strength of Malaysia's education system, securing opportunities to work in hospitals in the United Kingdom and Australia. He asserted that this global recognition is evidence of the quality of Malaysian education, which is now comparable to that of developed countries, thereby necessitating a paradigm shift and the development of more progressive institutions through enhanced legislation.
