Kuala lumpur: The government is set to announce an increase in the quota for full-time e-hailing drivers under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative soon, as stated by Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican. This announcement comes as part of the government’s efforts to address concerns raised by drivers and to align with the fuel usage data provided by e-hailing service providers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government, in collaboration with the Transport Ministry, has engaged with e-hailing companies to assess whether the current RON95 petrol subsidy meets the needs of e-hailing drivers. An agreement has been reached in principle to enhance the subsidy level. The specifics of this improvement will be disclosed shortly, with implementation scheduled for November.
On October 13, the government raised the BUDI95 eligibility ceiling for full-time e-hailing drivers from 300 litres to 600 litres per month, assisting nearly 58,000 drivers. Despite some voices calling for more aggres
sive actions to reduce the national fiscal deficit, Johan noted that the government intends to balance fiscal strengthening with providing necessary support for economic activities, especially considering the expected moderation in next year’s economic outlook.
