Budget 2027 to Focus on Technology Sector Support

Kuala Lumpur:Budget 2027 is anticipated to continue its focus on supporting the technology sector through targeted measures in funding, incentives, ecosystem development, and talent.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Apex Securities Bhd stated that the fifth MADANI Budget, and the second under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030), is set to be presented on October 9 by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The budget is expected to serve as a catalyst for the technology sector, guided by the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), while investments in artificial intelligence and data centers are expected to sustain demand.

Apex Securities noted that past budgets have introduced significant initiatives, including a RM1 billion electrical and electronics strategic fund in Budget 2025 and the SemiconStart and RM550 million in ecosystem partnerships in Budget 2026. These efforts expanded export tax incentives to integrated circuit design.

The firm does not anticipate a single consolidated figure for NSS Phase 2 or Phase 3 in Budget 2027. Instead, it predicts the continuation of specific measures targeting various aspects of the technology sector. The critical focus will be on the size and scope of the incremental measures announced.
