B15 Biodiesel Program Cuts Diesel Use by 23.62 Million Litres Monthly

Kuala Lumpur:The implementation of the B15 biodiesel blend has resulted in a monthly saving of 23.62 million litres of petroleum-based diesel from June to August.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad highlighted that this initiative has not only reduced Malaysia's reliance on petroleum-based fuels but also bolstered national energy security and extended the lifespan of diesel reserves.

The minister noted that using biodiesel produced locally minimizes the country's vulnerability to global petroleum diesel price fluctuations, especially during geopolitical tensions. This strategy might also enable the government to manage diesel subsidy expenditures more effectively.

Responding to a query from Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) in the Dewan Rakyat, Dr Noraini explained that the government plans to gradually increase the biodiesel blending rate. This incremental approach will depend on factors such as logistical readiness and will consider commodity prices, subsidy impacts, and environmental sustainability, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
