Kuala Lumpur:Brazil sees Malaysia as a strategic gateway to the Asian halal market due to its logistics, supply chain connectivity, and market size. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce's Institutional Relations Director, Fernanda Baltazar, highlighted Malaysia's strategic position and efficient logistics infrastructure as key factors for Brazilian companies aiming to expand their presence in Asia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Baltazar emphasized the growing importance of Malaysia in the global halal market and noted Brazil's intention to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026. Brazil aims to highlight its diverse product range and broaden its presence in the halal market.

Baltazar stated that Brazil seeks to manufacture higher value-added Brazilian food and beverages and not just be seen as the largest halal meat exporter. She expressed Brazil's desire to use Malaysia and MIHAS as a gateway to the Asian halal market, with the goal of diversifying the market for Brazilian products.

This year marks Brazil's fourth participation in MIHAS, with six Brazilian companies and organizations attending, including Milho Ingredients, MBRF Global Foods Company, and Po and Arte. Baltazar noted that Brazil is the world's largest exporter of halal meat and the top supplier of halal-certified chicken, exporting over two million tonnes annually. In 2024, Brazil's halal beef exports increased by 65% compared to 2023, with other halal products like sugar, grains, coffee, and Yerba mate also seeing improvements.

Brazil's halal meat exports reached over US$3.6 billion between January and September 2025, a 20% increase year-on-year, with exports to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries totaling around US$6 billion in halal protein.

MIHAS 2026, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on September 25, is held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from September 23. The event targets more than RM5 billion in potential business and aims to expand international market access for Malaysian halal products. Organized by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and coordinated by MATRADE, it is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors from 45 countries.
