Boy Found Drowned in Batang Mukah, Search Continues for Missing Sister

Kuala Lumpur: One of the two siblings reported missing while bathing in Batang Mukah, near Kampung Bedanga, at about 3.50 pm yesterday, was found drowned today. The body of 10-year-old Dexper Kiu Kuang Wei was discovered by a police team involved in the search and rescue operation, two kilometres from the incident location, at 4.40 pm today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre confirmed that the body was then taken to Mukah Hospital. The tragic incident highlights the potential dangers of swimming in the river, particularly near the Kuning Mukah Bridge, where strong currents are known to occur.

The boy’s younger sister, Susie Kiu, aged 7, remains missing. Efforts to locate her are ongoing, with search and rescue teams continuing their operations in the area. The children’s mother made a desperate attempt to save them but was unable to overcome the strong river currents that swept them away.

The community has been urged to exercise caution and avoid entering the river, especially during periods of strong currents. Authorities are continuing their search for Susie and are hopeful for a positive outcome in the coming days.
