Kuala lumpur: Barisan Nasional (BN) will maintain its position within the Unity Government, adhering to the resolution established during the last UMNO General Assembly (PAU), announced its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. This decision underscores BN's commitment to the collective stance agreed upon by the party's highest decision-making body.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as UMNO president and Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of respecting the decision made at the General Assembly. He urged all parties to uphold the resolution, stating, "That is our stance and resolution that we have brought to the General Assembly (UMNO). There is no body higher than the General Assembly and we greatly respect the decision. So we hope you do not worry." These remarks were made during a press conference following the 2026 Immigration Day celebration.

Additionally, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that the authority to appoint or dismiss any Cabinet member rests solely with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. "The power of appointment is the absolute right of the Prime Minister. So if the Prime Minister suspects or gets true information, that is the absolute power of the Prime Minister," he stated.

The media has reported that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim issued a warning to ministers, deputy ministers, and other government officials, advising them against leveraging their positions to criticize Unity Government partners during state election campaigns. Anwar indicated that any individual engaging in such actions would be expected to resign from their roles within the government.
