Bachok: Incorporating Jawi calligraphy into Malaysian batik art preserves cultural heritage and enhances the status of the Jawi script. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hasan, said the artwork, introduced by Indah Atelier through the Batik Jawi Calligraphy Collection, has the potential to enter the global market because this initiative not only supports local batik artisans but also promotes calligraphy artists.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zulkifli Hasan expressed his admiration for the collection, noting its suitability for Malaysians and its potential to reach international audiences. He emphasized that the initiative serves as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, contributing to the development of the industry, particularly in Bachok, Kelantan, and encouraging young people to engage with the craft.
He mentioned this to reporters after launching the Batik Jawi Calligraphy Collection. Zulkifli added that in line with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, Indah Atelier supports the Prime Minister’s vision of promoting local products internationally, highlighting Malaysian creativity through a unique fusion of Jawi calligraphy and batik.
Indah Atelier’s General Manager, Guganesan Parasuraman, stated that the collection is the first of its kind and that future plans include incorporating calligraphy from other Malaysian ethnic groups. The aim is to celebrate Malaysia’s heritage, starting with Jawi, and to foster appreciation among young generations while modernizing traditional batik.
