Kuantan: The Immigration Department (JIM) arrested a Bangladeshi man in Kuantan, Pahang, to assist investigations into a viral social media post alleging that he was in possession of both a Malaysian International Passport (PMA) and a Bangladeshi passport.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated that the arrest took place yesterday at 6:30 pm by a team of six JIM officers. The arrest was made at a container along Jalan Kuantan-Bandar Damansara, following intelligence gathered by the department.
Further inspection uncovered two Malaysian international passports that had expired on April 25, 2017, and October 25, 2022, as well as a Seaman's Service Book belonging to a Malaysian citizen. The suspect was subsequently taken to the Kuantan Immigration Office to facilitate further investigations. These investigations aim to identify the rightful owner of the two Malaysian International Passports and the Seaman's Service Book.
Zakaria mentioned that the investigation would determine if there are elements of unauthorized possession, misuse of travel documents, or any other offences under the relevant laws. He emphasized that the department takes allegations involving the misuse or unlawful possession of Malaysian travel documents seriously.
He also urged the public to refrain from making any speculation until investigations are completed. Zakaria assured that should there be any breach of the law, stern action would be taken in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
