Azeem Equals National Record, First Malaysian To Reach NCAA 100m Grand Final

Kuala lumpur: National sprinter Muhammad Azeem Fahmi continued his exceptional form by equalling his own national record with a time of 10.09 seconds in the quarter-finals of the NCAA Track and Field East Regional Championships in the United States early this morning. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia Athletics announced in a Facebook statement that the achievement also marked a historic moment for the 22-year-old as the first Malaysian to qualify for the NCAA Grand Final in the 100 metres, which is scheduled to take place in Oregon next month. Azeem, representing Auburn University, had earlier demonstrated promising potential by clocking 10.13 seconds in the opening round to secure his place in the quarter-finals. He initially set the national record at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia. His consistent performances throughout the season in the United States continue to strengthen his reputation as one of Malaysia's leading men's sprint prospects. Azeem stands alongside Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee as they prepare for several major competitions, including the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September.
