Tianjin: The government plans to attract more investments and create new logistics hubs and industrial parks along the route of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced that this initiative will be implemented via the Economic Accelerator Project (EAP).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul emphasized that the ECRL project is more than just a rail line; it serves as an economic catalyst for the East Coast. He stated that the efforts are aimed at ensuring the ECRL not only facilitates movement but also generates job opportunities and improves the people’s standard of living. He expressed commitment to monitoring and ensuring the project provides maximum benefits to the country.
Earlier, Tengku Zafrul, who was part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s delegation in Tianjin, China, met with China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), the main contractor for the ECRL. He mentioned that discussions with CCCC focused on the project’s progress.
Tengku Zafrul reported that the ECRL’s progress has reached 85 percent as of July 2025, and the project is on track to complete Phase 1 by January 2027. He also highlighted the achievement of the Genting tunnel, the longest rail tunnel in Southeast Asia, which had its breakthrough in July.
