Terengganu: The Terengganu Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has clarified that the recent viral incident involving the assault of a disabled man did not take place at any of the farmer’s markets under its supervision. Its director, Muhamad Fadlee Hassan, stated that FAMA manages three market sites in Kemaman, specifically Pasar Tani Chukai FAMA, Pasar Tani Kekal (PTK) Dusun Nyiur, and Pasar Tani Pantai Penunjuk Kijal.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Pasar Tani Padang Astaka Chukai, also known as the Pasar Pagi Jalan Padang Astaka Chukai, linked to the incident on January 17, is managed by a hawkers’ association. Muhamad Fadlee clarified that the incident did not occur at any of the three FAMA-managed markets in Kemaman. Both Pasar Tani Chukai FAMA and Pasar Pagi Jalan Padang Astaka Chukai operate every Friday from 7 am to noon and are located close to each other.
Muhamad Fadlee explained the need to address this confusion as it could affect the livelihoods of approximately 1,500 entrepreneurs under FAMA. He emphasized that FAMA would take strict action against any entrepreneurs involved in criminal activities or violence. In Terengganu, FAMA supports around 1,500 entrepreneurs and manages 111 outlets.
