Kuala lumpur: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has urged ASEAN to fully embrace the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 as the region navigates increasing global uncertainty, warning that only foresight and strategy can ensure stability and progress. He said the vision which charts the bloc’s direction for the next two decades, reaffirms that the region’s destiny lies in its own hands.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad emphasized the need for a seamless transition from ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together to ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, with all sectoral bodies and mechanisms aligning their priorities accordingly. He underscored the importance of ASEAN’s centrality and independence in international affairs, stressing that the region must be proactive in shaping its future.
Mohamad also addressed recent geopolitical crises, particularly condemning Israel’s military actions against Iran. He highlighted the ongoing situation in Gaza, criticizing Israel’s actions and emphasizing Malaysia’s stance against these measures. He stated that Malaysia absolutely condemns these atrocities and called for global awareness and action.
On regional matters, Mohamad reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution in Myanmar. He expressed concern over the delayed peace in Myanmar, noting that it prolongs the suffering of the people and poses a threat to regional security. He urged ASEAN to promote dialogue and diplomacy amidst intensifying geopolitical tensions.
Mohamad concluded by urging ASEAN to remain united, highlighting the bloc’s role as a platform for cooperation and prosperity. He called on ASEAN to be a beacon of hope and a voice of reason in international affairs, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of global challenges.
