Army Foils RM10.9 Million Drug-Smuggling Attempt in Kedah, Biggest Seizure This Year

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Army (TDM) foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs, suspected to be methamphetamine, worth more than RM10.9 million in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, yesterday, marking the largest seizure recorded this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation was carried out at 4:30 am and led by Captain Muhammad Zulharif Abdul Rahim along with five members from the Fourth Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (4 RRD). The team arrested a Thai man who was behaving suspiciously about 1.2 kilometers from Camp Sahara, Kuala Nerang.

During the inspection, a walkie-talkie, a machete, a waist bag, and a torchlight were found. Following the arrest, checks conducted at 7 am along the suspect’s route uncovered 331 packages containing crystalline chunks and powder believed to be methamphetamine, each weighing a kilogram.

Each package is valued at approximately RM33,000, bringing the total seizure to RM10.923 million. The suspect and the seized items were handed over to the Padang Terap district police headquarters at 2:55 pm the same day for further action.
