APM Assists 22 MUET Examiners Stranded By Floods In Kuantan

Kuantan: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) today assisted 22 Malaysian University English Test (MUET) examiners who were stranded after flooding cut off Jalan Gambang here from the examination centre.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuantan APM Disaster Operations Division officer Lt. (PA) Aznor Hafizi Ahmad said the department received a call at about 7.30 am and mobilised six personnel to Masjid Baru Gambang, where the examiners had gathered.

He stated that the examiners were transported to the examination centre at the Gambang Matriculation College using a lorry as floodwaters along the route had risen to more than half a metre.

'All the examiners arrived safely at the examination centre at 9.36 am, and we remain on standby for any eventualities,' he told Bernama.

It is learnt that the MUET examination, scheduled to begin at 8 am, has been delayed pending the arrival of the examiners.

A Bernama check found several vehicles attempting to use Jalan Gambang were forced to turn back for safety reasons, with police also deployed to control traffic.

Continuous rain in the Kuantan district for more than 48 hours has caused flooding in several residential areas, including Batu 6, Sri Damai, and Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing, with several temporary relief centres expected to open today.
