APG 2025: Cambodia’s Withdrawal Won’t Affect Malaysia’s 181-medal Target – NSC

Nibong tebal: Cambodia's withdrawal from the ASEAN Para Games Thailand (APG) 2025 has not affected the national contingent's targets, with Malaysia still aiming for 181 medals in the biennial Games, according to National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Jefri Ngadirin. He said the assessment of the contingent's targets was made after a structured process, with most sports having finalised their plans through their respective team managers' meetings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jefri stated that they have been informed by the Paralympic Council Malaysia (MPM) and the secretariat that the targets remain unchanged despite Cambodia's withdrawal. The chef de mission has confirmed the aim to secure 181 medals during Malaysia's participation in the APG.

Jefri made these remarks following Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol's visit to Terminal 21 Korat, which was intended to boost the morale of the national powerlifting athletes and wheelchair basketball squad.

On another matter, Jefri mentioned that preparations for the Malaysia 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games have commenced comprehensively, involving collaboration among various relevant agencies. Preparations for para athletes are set to officially begin in April, while able-bodied athletes will start their preparation programmes earlier, beginning on February 11.

Meanwhile, Mordi noted that his visit to Nakhon Ratchasima was to represent the ministry at the opening ceremony of the Thailand APG 2025 and to provide moral support to the national contingent.
