Anwar Ibrahim and Shehbaz Sharif Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss regional developments and enhance Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed appreciation for Pakistan's role in facilitating peace talks between the United States and Iran. He emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and achieve lasting peace.

Anwar also expressed hope that the visit by Pakistan's Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, to Malaysia could proceed after several postponements, indicating a welcoming attitude without the need for formal protocol arrangements.

The discussion further touched on meat export arrangements, with teams from both nations set to follow up on this matter. Anwar underscored the importance of translating the friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan into efforts that benefit the people of both countries.

Additionally, Anwar conveyed his gratitude for Shehbaz's condolence message over the passing of his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, on September 24, which was meaningful to his family during their time of loss. He also noted Shehbaz's condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
