Permatang pauh: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident the Cabinet will approve a proposal to make public the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) after it is tabled for consideration at Wednesday's Cabinet meeting. Anwar said he had no objection to releasing the report, but stressed that the decision must follow due process through Cabinet deliberation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar addressed concerns regarding the delay in the release of the RCI report, emphasizing the importance of adhering to formal procedures. 'People have asked why the RCI report on TH has not been made public. I have no objection and I agree that it should be released, but it must follow the proper process. I will table the matter to the Cabinet on Wednesday, and I believe the Cabinet will agree,' he stated.
Anwar explained that the report's release was initially deferred at Tabung Haji's request, as the agency required time to implement improvements. 'There is now a new management team in place to carry out those reforms, and we are ready to make the report public,' he said during the National Training Week (NTW) 2026 finale at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Permatang Pauh.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that the government had previously postponed the report's release to preserve public confidence in Tabung Haji. However, with the institution now successfully restored and internationally recognized, the situation has evolved. 'Last week, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent me a message saying that Tabung Haji had received an award for the best management among Hajj organisations worldwide,' Anwar revealed.
He added that this achievement underscores the potential of national institutions to be revitalized through good governance and integrity, thus rebuilding public trust. The Prime Minister had earlier indicated the government's readiness to disclose the final RCI report on Tabung Haji to inform the public about the findings concerning allegations related to the sale of the agency's strategic assets.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan had mentioned that the proposal to release the final report would be addressed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting, following confusion and allegations over the sale of Tabung Haji's strategic assets by the former Treasury secretary-general.
