Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif have agreed that regional tensions must be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy to safeguard peace and stability.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that the shared position was reached during a telephone conversation with Shehbaz, where they exchanged views on current regional developments and the latest developments in Iran-US relations. Anwar also mentioned that Shehbaz enquired about his health during the conversation.
In a Facebook post, Anwar highlighted their discussion on Iran-US relations, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement to ease tensions. He mentioned the necessity of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and safe to ensure the smooth flow of international trade.
The conversation further reinforced Malaysia and Pakistan's commitment to strengthen trade and economic ties, which hold significant potential for expansion. This includes increasing Pakistani meat exports to Malaysia. Anwar stressed that every commitment reached should be swiftly translated into tangible outcomes benefiting the people of both countries.
Anwar assured that Malaysia will continue to support Pakistan as an important partner. He also expressed gratitude to Shehbaz for his prayers and for sending flowers and fruit following his recent health condition. Anwar had undergone an elective laparoscopic procedure to treat a para-umbilical hernia and is currently recovering.
