Anthony Loke Submits Resignation, Awaits Najib’s Return for Effect

Kuala Lumpur:Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed the submission of his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke stated that although the Prime Minister requested him to continue in his role temporarily, his resignation will be effective once former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is released from prison to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.

Loke explained that his resignation is driven by the Democratic Action Party's (DAP) stance against Najib's house arrest arrangement. He expressed this decision following a DAP Central Executive Committee meeting on September 19, which was in response to Najib's conditional pardon allowing for house arrest until August 23, 2028, contingent on a RM50 million fine.

Despite the resignation submission, Loke will maintain his duties as Transport Minister for the time being, as no successor has been appointed yet. He personally handed his resignation letter to the Prime Minister during a meeting to discuss his decision to step down from the Cabinet.
