Amway Malaysia Intensifies Preventive Healthcare Efforts Amid Ageing Population

Kuala lumpur: Amway Malaysia is intensifying its efforts to encourage Malaysians to prioritise preventive care as the country transitions towards an ageing society. Amway Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei managing director Jason Leng stated that the inaugural Amway Malaysia Healthspan Summit, in collaboration with the Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society (MHAS), was part of its initiative to raise awareness about building a longer and healthier life.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the summit gathered approximately 2,000 participants and experts from various fields, showcasing a growing interest among Malaysians in understanding healthspan and making sustainable lifestyle changes. Leng remarked that healthcare should not be limited to seeking medical attention when feeling unwell, but should also include taking preventive actions before illness occurs.

Leng highlighted the success of Amway Malaysia's health screening initiative, which has seen more than 60,000 passes utilised, surpassing the initial target of 50,000. He emphasized that Amway's approach encourages small, gradual, and consistent improvements in diet and nutrition that are sustainable over time.

Community support is another vital element in maintaining healthier habits, as adopting a healthy lifestyle can be challenging when relying solely on personal discipline. Leng stated that Amway's community network plays a crucial role in encouraging Malaysians to pursue healthier lifestyles collectively.

Meanwhile, MHAS president Prof V. Nathan noted the collaboration as a timely reminder of the importance of awareness and prevention, especially with the nation preparing for an ageing population. Nathan stressed that ageing is a lifelong journey and that it is never too late to adopt healthier lifestyles. Education serves as a powerful tool in equipping more Malaysians for healthy ageing.

Nathan also pointed out that healthy ageing encompasses not just diet and exercise, but also caregiving, mental well-being, social connectedness, and financial planning. He affirmed Amway's commitment to collaborating with experts and leveraging its community network to support the government's and other stakeholders' efforts in advancing preventive healthcare.
