Aman Seterra Sanctuary to Set Precedent as World’s First Islamic-Inspired Retirement Village

Kuala Temoyong: Aman Seterra Sanctuary, slated for construction in Kuala Temoyong, Langkawi next year, is poised to become the world’s first Islamic-inspired International Retirement Village. This pioneering project aims to position Malaysia as a leading international retirement destination through a collaboration between Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) via its wholly-owned subsidiary, Aman Lagenda Sdn Bhd, and Seterra Holdings Sdn Bhd.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, BDB group executive director Raja Shahreen Raja Othman highlighted that Aman Seterra Sanctuary will be developed on a 5.03-hectare site, offering services to retirees and senior citizens worldwide. The village will integrate independent living, assisted care, and long-term care, addressing the growing demand for specialized elderly services as Malaysia surpasses the ‘Ageing Society’ threshold in 2024. Raja Shahreen emphasized that Aman Seterra Sanctuary is set to become a model for sustainable retirement communities in Southeast Asia.

Strategically located, the sanctuary aims to attract international retirees by capitalizing on the natural beauty of the area. It will feature eco-friendly and green building designs, incorporating community gardens and outdoor spaces, promising luxurious yet affordable living. Raja Shahreen made these remarks during a press conference following the Exchange of the Joint Venture and Shareholders’ Agreement with Seterra Holdings, represented by Seterra Group CEO Rashidi Yahaya. The event was witnessed by BDB chairman Che Had Dhali and Seterra Group chairman M Yusof Ahamad.

The sanctuary will boast comprehensive facilities and infrastructure to cater to retirees and senior citizens, including a mini ambulatory care center, a memory clinic for dementia care, rehabilitation and wellness programs, social and entertainment areas, and dedicated prayer rooms. Raja Shahreen noted that Aman Seterra Sanctuary is expected to enhance tourism potential by attracting retirees from nations such as Japan, Australia, and Singapore, with plans for habitation by early 2028.

Rashidi Yahaya revealed that the retirement village will offer 780 residential units, with retirees having the option to reside in apartments or premium suites, available in studio, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom configurations. He stated that Kedah will be the first Malaysian state to launch such a project, anticipated to act as a catalyst for state growth, generating job opportunities in various sectors including healthcare, hospitality, construction, and management while boosting local businesses such as retail and support services.
