Kuala lumpur: National men's doubles player, Man Wei Chong is determined to participate in the prestigious 2026 All England tournament despite not fully recovering from three injuries to his right knee. The 27-year-old player said the decision was made based on confidence in the recovery process he is undergoing and trust in the medical team.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wei Chong discussed his recent struggles with knee injuries, revealing that an MRI scan showed three injuries to his right knee. These include issues with the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a meniscus injury, and a chondral problem. The ACL injury is considered the least severe, but the other two are of a more concerning level.
The injury has led Wei Chong to reduce his on-court training for the past two weeks, focusing instead on gym work and recovery. He plans to gradually increase the intensity of his on-court training this week. Wei Chong mentioned receiving a PRP injection two weeks before the Chinese New Year and acknowledged that his recovery is taking time.
He shared that discussions with his physiotherapist and doctor at the National Sports Institute (ISN) have been positive. The medical team is supportive, and Wei Chong is encouraged to not let the injury hinder his progress. He emphasized the importance of seizing any opportunity to compete if he feels capable.
Wei Chong is scheduled for a further examination with his doctor on Thursday to evaluate the current state of his injury and determine his readiness for the tournament. The 2026 edition of the All England tournament is set to take place at the Birmingham Utility Arena from March 3 to 8.
