Kuala lumpur: Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) will scale up the 'Gelombang Aku Kasih Malaysia' initiative into a national movement this year as part of efforts to strengthen unity across the country amid the global supply crisis. AKM deputy director-general (Professional) Shahrir Zaman Abdul Wahab said that in light of global economic uncertainty, efforts to instil patriotism and reinforce national identity through the programme have become increasingly vital to ensure the people remain united.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shahrir Zaman highlighted that the people need to understand the current situation. He cited the oil price issue following the conflict in West Asia as an example, noting that it is influenced by external developments that must be addressed collectively. He expressed concerns that without a spirit of love for the country, society may be easily influenced by such challenges.
Shahrir Zaman revealed that more than 200 programmes had been implemented under the initiative nationwide from January to April this year, aiming to reach up to two million participants from various segments of society. Currently, the programme is being carried out through approximately 18 national training centres and government training facilities. However, AKM is seeking greater involvement from non-governmental organisations to expand its reach to the wider community.
The 'Gelombang Aku Kasih Malaysia' programme, introduced last year, has been implemented through different approaches, including courses, forums, workshops, and field activities. These activities emphasize the appreciation of the Rukun Negara, the Federal Constitution, and an understanding of the country's current situation. AKM, an agency under the Prime Minister's Department, is tasked with implementing and coordinating nationhood training and leadership programmes. The agency aims to foster patriotism, discipline, and integrity among the people through a more structured, systematic, and focused training approach.
