Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) will suspend its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi, Kenya, starting September 1, 2025, as part of its network optimisation initiative due to lower-than-expected travel demand. The long-haul low-cost carrier announced the suspension, affecting flights that currently connect Malaysia directly with Africa.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AirAsia X has informed all affected passengers at the earliest opportunity about service recovery options (SROs) for bookings on this route for travel from September 1, 2025, onwards. The SROs offer affected guests choices such as a full refund, credit account, or a free-of-charge flight change for travel before August 31, 2025, to help them make alternative travel arrangements.
AAX stated that it continues to evaluate its network and consumer demand, making necessary adjustments to maintain commercial viability and provide competitive fare options across its network. The Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi route was launched on November 15, 2024, as the
airline’s first direct flight to East Africa, operating four times a week and serving as the sole direct air link between Malaysia and Africa.
