AirAsia X Reports Decrease in Net Profit Despite Revenue Growth in 1Q 2025

Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) has announced a drop in its net profit for the first quarter ending March 31, 2025, reporting RM50.20 million compared to RM80.11 million in the same period last year. Despite the decline in net profit, the airline experienced an increase in revenue, which rose to RM940.08 million from RM908.91 million in the previous year, attributed to higher ticket sales driven by an increase in passengers and ancillary revenue per passenger.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, AAX’s filing with Bursa Malaysia revealed that the airline transported 1.08 million passengers on 1.29 million available seats during the first quarter of 2025, achieving a passenger load factor of 83 percent. The company expressed satisfaction with the results, indicating a positive start to the year and optimism about meeting its internal targets.

In terms of future prospects, AAX acknowledged the usual seasonal trends that affect the second and third quarters but remains positive about its forward sales trajectory, particularly due to the increase in ancillary services uptake. The company is hopeful of maintaining its momentum moving into what is typically one of its strongest quarters between October and December.

The airline also noted the volatility in geopolitical factors worldwide and emphasized its careful monitoring of foreign exchanges and jet fuel price trends. No dividend was declared for the first quarter of 2025.
