AI-driven Propaganda To Be A Major Challenge For PBB – Abang Johari

Kuching: Political propaganda using artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be a major challenge for the future leadership of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), said its president Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Abang Johari emphasized that this challenge necessitates the party’s leadership to equip themselves with technological skills and connectivity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari expressed concerns that politicians may exploit AI to create propaganda, driven by human nature and desire to gain power. Speaking at the opening of PBB’s 16th General Assembly, he highlighted the importance of mastering technology to effectively counter such propaganda. He noted that AI technology’s role will be pivotal as future economic and social activities increasingly rely on connectivity and technology.

Abang Johari, also the Sarawak Premier, underscored the importance of staying informed on global developments to ensure Sarawak’s perspectives on international issues are heard. He stressed that PBB must stay relevant amid global changes, including the AI era.

As the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), PBB’s future leadership must uphold values of understanding, mutual respect, and trust among its coalition partners to face forthcoming challenges. Abang Johari remarked that these values have been deeply embedded in PBB since its establishment in 1973, shaping the party’s structure and guiding its relationship with GPS allies.

He further stated that as Premier, he shares decisions with his Cabinet colleagues, rather than making unilateral decisions. The other component parties of GPS include the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
