Ahmad Zahid Urges UMNO Members to Avoid ‘Crabs in a Bucket’ Mentality

Segamat: UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on the party’s leadership and members to distance themselves from the detrimental culture of undermining each other, likening such actions to ‘crabs in a bucket.’ He emphasized the importance of collaboration to fortify the party’s internal security ahead of the 16th general election (GE16).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that members should avoid behaviors akin to crabs stepping on each other to escape, which ultimately leads to mutual downfall. He made these remarks at the Segamat UMNO Division Delegates Meeting at the Taman Yayasan Multipurpose Hall.

Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, warned that a culture of blame and self-righteousness could erode public confidence in UMNO. He advised members to express differing opinions respectfully and ethically, especially on internal matters.

He further encouraged members to maintain focus on unity among the grassroots and to ensure that differences do not lead to division. Ahmad Zahid also mentioned that respectful conduct could lead to future leadership opportunities, cautioning against the repercussions of rudeness.

The event was attended by Johor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Segamat UMNO Division chief Datuk Zahari Sarip.
