Ahmad Zahid Reminds Malaysian Motorcyclists To Respect Host Countries’ Regulations

He said mutual respect, tolerance and an understanding of neighbouring countries' regulations were crucial to maintaining good relations among ASEAN member states.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized the importance of following the rules set by whichever country they are in. He expressed hope for mutual respect and clarified that it is not the intention of Malaysian motorcyclists to break the law. He further highlighted the tolerance that can be practised among ASEAN member states.

Ahmad Zahid made these remarks after attending the closing ceremony of the Negeri Sembilan Contingent Charity Ride programme with the Ipoh Super Bike Club (ISBC) at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters. His comments came in response to a recent incident where Malaysian high-powered motorcycle riders were stopped and issued summonses by traffic police in Hat Yai, Thailand. A viral video had alleged that Thai authorities "bullied" the riders, but Thai police refuted the claims, stating the fines were for traffic violations such as using flashing lights and modified exhausts exceeding permitted decibel levels.

Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid addressed the issue of foreign-registered vehicles violating traffic laws upon entering Malaysia. He stated that such issues could be discussed and resolved through the Annual Consultation Meeting platform between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other ASEAN leaders.

In addition to these discussions, Ahmad Zahid praised the Charity Ride programme, which raised RM102,000 with the support of 53 companies. The funds are set to benefit 120 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) families and 12 welfare homes along the convoy route. He also expressed interest in participating in a large-scale motorcycle convoy programme next year, marking the 70th National Day and 220th Police Day celebrations, with a proposed participation of at least 220 riders.
