Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated the Malaysian 2026 Commonwealth Games contingent of 59 athletes, including 22 para athletes, on their excellent achievement at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. He highlighted their success in surpassing the set targets by securing eight gold, three silver, and five bronze medals, marking the country's best performance since 2010.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid expressed his pride and gratitude towards all individuals involved in the success, including athletes, coaches, officials, and support staff. He stated, "Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, officials, support staff, and everyone who worked hard to bring glory to Malaysia." He emphasized that their efforts, regardless of winning a medal, made all Malaysians proud.

Ahmad Zahid further described the team's accomplishments as evidence of Malaysia's ability to achieve international recognition through careful preparation, strong team spirit, and unwavering commitment. He expressed hope that this achievement would inspire Malaysia to reach even greater heights in future competitions.

Malaysia concluded the Games in 10th place in the medal standings, earning a total of 16 medals.
